Local Photographer Donates Time and Talent to Domestic Violence Shelter

Bill Yorston has been taking pictures for a long time.  As a long-time Lincoln County resident, you may recognize him and his wife Deb as the previous owners of Sherwood Forest Cabins or from their work as a real estate team.  More recently, Yorston has focused solely on making his love for photography his job.

“I am active in the Ruidoso area, photographing various events which include dance and equestrian competitions. I also do product, food and real estate photography,” Yorston said.  “I love this beautiful area and enjoy living in the mountains almost as much as I enjoy teaching others what I have learned about photography in over 45 years of taking pictures.”

HEAL Board member Sheri Rodgers, fellow lover of photography and friend of Yorston commented, “I’ve watched his hobby thrive and grow into a great business, as he shoots portraits, The Nutcracker dancer portraits at the Spencer Theater each year, beautiful landscape and wildlife portraits and, in a bit of a 360 degree turn, real estate photography.”

“Most recently, my focus is real estate photography, which captures the various features of properties listed for sale.  I also photograph homes for owners who wish to preserve memories and document their real estate. These photos can be a great resource for insurance companies should the need arise,” explained Yorston.  “My clients include interior designers, real estate brokers, home designers and builders, custom kitchen designers, and cabinet manufacturers.”

This past February, Yorston gave attendees at HEAL & The Nest’s Savor the Flavor culinary event red carpet treatment as he photographed them entering the venue and throughout the night.  Yorston volunteered his time and artwork to the fundraiser that benefited Lincoln County’s first and only domestic violence shelter.

“Bill made the touching gesture of reaching out to me recently to ask if he could do the same for the Deacon Bob Open Golf Tournament,” Rodgers said.  With the breathtaking views of the Championship Golf Course at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, Yorston’s photos are sure to be traffic-stopping.

The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, August 6th at 1:00 p.m.  The $125 fee per golfer includes green fees and cart rental, pro shop gift certificate prizes for top players, a golfer goodie bag, refreshments, various prizes on all 18 holes and a BBQ dinner at the awards ceremony.  Visit https://helpendabuseforlife.org/registration/ to register as an individual or a team.

“I love our community,” Yorston said. “I also enjoy supporting true needs in our community, and HEAL and the Nest are organizations which do so much good for those who need help.  I will always help and support if needed.”

“Bill and Deb are two of the kindest people I know,” Rodgers said.  “I’m proud to call them my friends, great human beings and excellent citizens of our community.”
