National Giving Day at The Nest

As part of Give Local America, a national fundraising effort, non-profit organizations around New Mexico have joined together for a 24-hour campaign called Give Grande New Mexico. Help End Abuse for Life (HEAL) is one of the many organizations across the state and the country participating in the giving day.
By choosing to contribute to The Nest domestic violence shelter on Tuesday, May 6th, members of the community will see their dollars working even harder to help the women and children residing at The Nest through a match provided via national corporate fundraising efforts. The match is calculated based on an organization’s overall performance during Give Local America, so each individual supporter of HEAL can help ensure the shelter comes out on top.
Because of how the matching funds are distributed, the giving day has a competitive element.
Organizations will receive money based on their overall performance. “Although we are part of a small community, we believe Lincoln County can and will do what it has always done – be a leader,” Coleen Widell, Executive Director of HEAL and The Nest, said. “We want people to remember that they are not limited by their own checkbooks. People can ask friends and family, no matter where they live, to pitch in. If they have ever thought about donating to The Nest, please do it on this day.’”
HEAL is encouraging other groups to improve southeast New Mexico’s share of the competitive national match. “Every one of our board members will be donating through Give Grande NM,” Widell said. “Our organization does not receive local tax money, so it would be fun to see the village and town councilors and the county commissioners show their support for our residents at The Nest. As a member of the Chamber of Commerce, we hope to see support from our fellow chamber members as well.”
Everyone can be a philanthropist. Large and small gifts will combine for big impact. Supporters can visit www.givegrandenm.org on May 6, to make a donation with a credit card or if one prefers to donate via cash or check, they can bring it to Sweet Charity Resale Boutique or The Nest shelter at 26374 US Highway 70 in Ruidoso Downs.
