Dedication is one of Help End Abuse for Life’s favorite values and its’ board of directors prove their dedication time and time again. Chef Brendan Gochenour, one of three newest members with no more than a few weeks on the job, has already started taking the heat in the kitchen at The Nest. This week, he made a visit to the staff and residents of the shelter to prepare a delicious meal of sushi and sweet and sour chicken.
On his deeds, Gochenour, a 2013 Hero with Heart, shared his inspiration and his desire to teach the residents an important skill: “One thing they all wanted to do is sushi. Of course, it’s one of the things I’m not good at, so I’m glad it went well! I think that cooking is something everyone should know how to do because it’s a great way to spend time with your kids and family, and it’s a necessity. If you know how to cook, and teach your kids how to cook, then they’re more likely to eat healthier foods. I want to teach them how to do different kinds of cooking. Maybe we can even offer some ongoing classes.”
He also shared where he got his love for the well-crafted dish. Gochenour said, “Some of the fondest memories from my childhood are from spending time with my mother in the kitchen. I really believe it’s the heart of the house.”
Thanks to Brendan Gochenour, The Nest’s residents got to enjoy a delicious meal and take comfort in the fact they can now prepare it themselves and their families with the same love and care he has given to them. He has truly displayed the value of dedication.
