Oprah Winfrey once said, “It’s not just being able to write a check. It’s being able to touch somebody’s life.”
Local charity, Help End Abuse for Life (HEAL), is the umbrella organization responsible for the creation, maintenance and operations of Lincoln County’s first safe haven for survivors of domestic violence. The women and children who come through the doors at The Nest are often fleeing, in addition to abusive relationships, their homes and their belongings. The shelter is blessed by the generosity of various donations from many local businesses and community members. This assists in everything from helping to pay operating costs of a 24/7 shelter to providing residents with necessities like food and toiletries.
Midtown soap company, All Lathered Up, regularly donates their artisan hand-cut soaps to the shelter. Owner Lee Pate explains, “we love donating to a local worthy cause like The Nest, which was brought to our attention by our staff member, Sylvia Smart.”
Smart often delivers the business’s monthly donation, and she has made an impression on the shelter’s Executive Director, Coleen Widell. “Ms. Smart is a very kind, dedicated woman. We appreciate their consistent support of our clients.”
All Lathered Up has been in business in Ruidoso for fourteen years. The fun, quirky shop offers soaps, lotions, salt and sugar scrubs, bath fizzies, and bath salts – all made by the company. They feature handmade goats milk soap and artistic glycerin soap. They also carry other bath supplies like men’s wet shaving supplies (badger brushes, razors, and shaving butter) as well as a large selection of soap dishes and bath tub toys for children. They also offer an online shop where you can order and have shipped to you.
“All Lathered Up continues to set an incredible example in our community of giving what they have to offer, and they truly do touch lives with every donation they make to our shelter,” Widell said.
