Upcoming Jail n’ Bail Event to Benefit The Nest
Mark your calendars! Walton Stations’ second annual Jail n’ Bail event is scheduled for Thursday, October 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Walmart in Ruidoso Downs. They will be broadcasting live from the grocery side of the store on KWES 93.5FM from noon until 2:00 p.m. The event will raise money for HEAL & The Nest Domestic Violence Shelter. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Posse, who will be “arresting” participants, will also receive a portion of the proceeds.
“The jail will be built out of Dr. Pepper 12-pack cases, which will be on sale at Walmart for $3,” explained Director of Operations, Jessica Cadena. “Last year we ‘arrested’ 15 participants and raised $3,000. This year we would love to double the number of participants.”
Cadena explained the event is not only an opportunity to raise money for charity, but also a way for them to promote their sponsors, Walmart and Dr. Pepper. “It is tremendous to not only be blessed with all of the business we have, but also to partner with amazing companies who want to help the local community. It’s tough work being creative enough to draw business to a location, create an event that will raise money for a charity, raise awareness, provide food and supply donations all at the same time, at a small 2-hour broadcast, but we are always up for the challenge!” Subway restaurants also sponsor all their live broadcasts and will be providing lunch for the event.
Walton Stations is comprised of three stations operated together under one roof, said Cadena. Originally KYAP, Ruidoso’s first radio station established in the early 60’s, Walton Stations has grown to include KWES 93.5 FM Country, KBUY 105.9FM/1360AM Classic Hits and JUAN (KWES-AM) 94.7 FM 1450 AM Spanish Adult Hits. Cadena also explained the stations are “run by a small but dedicated staff, and each of us wears many hats and work together to engage listeners, deliver customers to our clients and promote support for community and charity events. At Walton Stations we believe that our wonderful mountain community is what keeps us going.”
They chose HEAL & The Nest as the beneficiary of this year’s Jail n’ Bail event due to their tremendous impact on this community. Cadena explains, “Our company, as well as many individuals in our area, believe the work done through this organization is vital to the health of our community.” HEAL board members and some staff will be arrested and jailed for the event.
