Sponsors, Sponsors, Sponsors!

Help End Abuse for Life (HEAL) held its annual Deacon Bob Open Golf Tournament a dew weeks ago to raise funds for The Nest, Lincoln County’s first and only domestic violence shelter. Golfers teed off at the beautiful Inn of the Mountain Gods Championship Golf Course and enjoyed an afternoon of fun contests, gorgeous views, a BBQ dinner and prize presentation.

The Inn of the Mountain Gods graciously hosted the charity golf tournament and provided the BBQ spread of delicious brisket and all the fixings. Golf PGA professional Daniel Nunez and course staff member Keenan Kane facilitated a seamless tournament.

Windstream Communications generously sponsored the tournament by providing the signature ball caps that were part of each golfer’s goodie bag. This is the second year the company has done so. Windstream provides internet, phone service and digital television in Lincoln County.

The course included many contest holes, including hole-in-one, closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt. One of the possible prizes was a brand new vehicle, graciously provided by Ted Durham of Sierra Blanca Motors, who has been a continued supporter of HEAL and The Nest for many years. Sierra Blanca Motors, located on Highway 70, is Ruidoso’s trusted Dodge, Chrysler, Chevrolet, and Lincoln dealership.

Throughout the day of the tournament, raffle tickets were sold. After dinner, golfers and their families joyfully listened for the winning ticket numbers to be called, searched their tickets for a matching number and cheered for the winners.

The grand prize was a gift certificate worth $500 for stem cell therapy, generously donated by Dr. Stephen A. Rath of Fusion Medical Spa. Located at River Crossing in Midtown, Fusion Medical Spa offers an extensive array of popular cosmetic and anti-aging treatments and a medically supervised weight loss program. Dr. Rath, who is committed supporter of The Nest, has also provided complimentary scar removal for survivors of domestic violence living at the shelter.

Other prizes were collected from HEAL board members Pat Shukis-Fraser, Sheri Rodgers, Micah Woodul and Shannon Silva and included a stay at La Junta Guest Ranch, various golf goodies, gift certificates to Zocca Coffee, a solar table and gift baskets from Sierra Blanca Pharmacy.
