The annual golf tournament, held at the Inn of the Mountain Gods’ championship course, is a four-golfer scramble scheduled for Saturday, August 6th with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start.  Like past years, attendees will play 18 holes on the breathtakingly beautiful course designed by Ted Robinson, which is nestled among tall pine trees under the majestic Sierra Blanca peak and features meticulously manicured, tree-lined fairways, a beautiful island fairway and fast-breaking greens.  Truly, a golfer’s dream course.  The course is owned and operated by the Mescalero Apache tribe.

The $125 entry fee includes green fees and cart rental.  Also included are golfer refreshments and a goodie bag with a personalized golftowel and collectors commemorative 2016 tournament hat.  A silent auction will feature several rounds of golf at some of Lincoln County’s finest courses as well as offerings from businesses in Lincoln County.

Unlimited mulligans will be available for purchase at $5 each – it is a fundraiser, after all!  All of the fundraiser’s proceeds benefit The Nest, Lincoln County’s first and only domestic violence shelter in Ruidoso Downs.

This year’s tournament boasts a contest on  EVERY holethat will challenge golfers’ skillsand will be defined by Golf Pro Daniel Nunez and his staff.

Contests includee classic skill challenges such as hole-in-one, closest to the pin, longest drive and longest putt.  The enticing prizes will include cash, a luxurious vacation and a brand new vehicle generously provided by Ted Durham of Sierra Blanca Motors, a long-time supporter of HEAL and The Nest.

The return of the popular 50/50 putting contest at the turn of the back nine will tempt golfers with a cash prize of half the pot for the winner.  Prizes for other holes will consist of generous gift certificates and gift baskets from local merchants.

With plenty of opportunities for competitive golfing fun, the Deacon Bob Open is about camaraderie.   Many of the teams who play in this tournament come year after year, making the Deacon Bob Open a summer tradition for them and their families.  Several golfers make the trek from Colorado, Arizona, Texas and California.

A BBQ dinner and awards ceremony will be held on the new deck at Apache Tee, with sweeping views of the course.  The dinner for tournament participants is included in the entry fee and family members are invited to attend for an additional, nominal fee.

The cozy village of Ruidoso, New Mexico offers activities, shopping, dining and entertainment, perfect for a cool, relaxing weekend getaway from the hot summer sun and fast-paced city life.  Get your fill of live horse racing and casino gambling, take a stroll through the shops in Midtown, dine to your heart’s content and even get in a yoga session at one of the local studios or a massage at the fabulous Sanctuary on the River.

If you think you’ve gotten enough of the Ruidoso experience and a Deacon Bob Open weekend before, think again.  Since the last tournament, the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort has added the Eagle Zip Rider, where riders take in the beautiful views of the Inn of the Mountain Gods as they glide over the crystal waters of Lake Mescalero on the newest zip line. In addition, another new zip line called The Apache Wind Rider at the top of Ski Apache resort reaches 11,000 feet. It is also complete with parallel cables so riders can glide down the mountain side-by-side. The adrenaline-pumping, three-part zip tour reaches over 8,900 feet in length, making it one of the longest in the world while offering a thrilling and unforgettable experience.

Also new to the Inn is the Broken Arrow Tap House, the premier pub has 50 beers on tap and savory dishes available for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night dining.  The restaurant includes a bar, dining room, show kitchen, shuffleboard and full coffee bar.  Both additions are on-site, must-do activities for before or after the Saturdayafternoon tournament.

Bring your spouse or partner.  Bring your family.  Bring your buddies.    Whoever you chose to spend it with, be sure to plan your August 6th weekend at the Deacon Bob Open.
