VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT – Parker Johnson & Raul Rios

The two lots behind the Nest domestic violence shelter are slowly becoming parking lots that will be secured for Nest staff, residents, volunteers and guests.  Alongside the lots, and up the long driveway that leads to them, were many very large weeds, some of which were nearing 6 feet high and were making the Ruidoso Downs Code Enforcement Officer very unhappy.  HEAL, as it occasionally does, posted a request for help on Facebook.  Parker Johnson from Ruidoso High School emerged to take on the daunting task, as a way to meet his community service hours required for a class.  Parker also recruited Raul Rios, the head of maintenance from Lincoln County Medical Center and father of his girlfriend.  Together, the two spent many hours beautifying the grounds at the shelter.  Hip, hip, hooray for these two wonderful men who helped the Nest!
