Board President Spotlight: Marin Goza

I believe that with therapeutic support and trauma informed care, victims can be empowered to break the cycle of abuse and help others to do the same.

Marin Goza, HEAL Board Secretary

This is Marin Goza’s FIFTH year as a member of the HEAL Board of Directors. The former Board President and current Board Secretary tells us about herself, why she was drawn to volunteer with HEAL & The Nest Domestic Violence Shelter, and what she hopes to accomplish during her future time on the Board.

Interviewer: Tell me how you first got involved with HEAL & The Nest Domestic Violence Shelter.

Marin Goza: I was invited by Robyn Draper to join the board in 2016

Interviewer: How long have you been a member of the Lincoln County community?  Where did you live before living here (if applicable)?

MG: I’ve been here for 18 years. I grew up in Aztec, NM, then lived in ABQ and Portland, OR before moving to Ruidoso.

Interviewer: What was your first impression of HEAL?

MG: My first impression was that there is a lot more going on with HEAL and The Nest than I first assumed.

Interviewer: What do you wish other people knew about HEAL?

MG: I wish people knew that we welcome involvement from the community and would like to include as many people as possible in our mission to end abuse.

Interviewer: What are some of your strongest beliefs about HEAL/The Nest/domestic violence?

MG: I believe that with therapeutic support and trauma informed care, victims can be empowered to break the cycle of abuse and help others to do the same.

Interviewer: What might our readers be surprised to know about you?

MG: I have a degree in poetry!

Interviewer: What do you do when you aren’t volunteering as a Board Member for HEAL? 

MG: I teach high school English and art in Hondo, am the mom to a thirteen and fifteen year old, and I love to sing, read, and hike!

Interviewer: What are you looking forward to most about this coming year for HEAL?

MG: Continuing to connect with people in the community, via outreach events to help gain support for our organization and our clients.
